Exposing the Cyber-stalker – Robert Macindoe
Cyber-stalkers use the internet and any electronic means to repeatedly harass a targeted individual, group or organisation. It is a form of cyber-bullying characterised by monitoring any online activity of the target, gathering information to threaten or harass the target and the dissemination of false accusations and defamatory material. Cyber-stalking often features linked patterns of online and offline behaviour (‘real-time’ stalking) such as sending threatening emails.
The activity of cyber-stalking has become commonplace on the internet – you only need to look at the blog sites of most celebrities, entertainers and politicians to discover a path of ‘virtual rage and fantasised violence’ (Adams, 2011). Often it is the same people posting the same material under different names on different sites. Sometimes it can be by people known to the target, in many instances the target has no relationship to the cyber-stalker.
The problem of cyber-stalking is compounded by online anonymity as it allows the perpetrator to take a ‘moral vacation’. Psychologists refer to this as de-individuation, where the social norms that govern human interaction are removed because identities are concealed. Under an alias, all responsibility and social repercussions for behaviour vanishes and behaviour that would ordinarily be repugnant flourishes. One commentator observes that digital media allows ‘almost unlimited opportunity for wilful de-individuation.’ (Adams, 2011).
Robert Macindoe – an unlikely cyber-stalker
It is into this environment that Robert (Bobbie) Macindoe has taken his own moral vacation and found an identity as a cyber-stalker par excellence. Robert (Bobbie) Macindoe would appear to be an unlikely cyber-stalker – he presents as a professional musician who plays Associate Principal, Second Violin with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and also teaches music to the young (and impressionable) in programs conducted by the MSO, he is also a father of four children. Yet it is the very ordinary and conventionally restrained individuals like Robert Macindoe, who appear to be drawn to this covert behaviour.
For two years now, Robert Macindoe, using a gmail account, ‘erotic doberman’ and the pseudonym, ‘Eric Dobbs’ (apparently derived from his noxious gmail account name) has been posting vile, demeaning, often very personal and offensive comments on blogs and extending his cyber-stalking to personally approaching individuals with noxious and threatening emails. Robert Macindoe has pursued and attacked many people he has never met and knows nothing about, the only association that these people have is that they have been found to have a connection with Serge Benhayon and Universal Medicine.
As far as we know, life as a cyber-bully started for Robert Macindoe in May 2012, although it is not unusual for cyber-stalkers to have multiple identities and multiple targets, so we cannot say if this is merely a continuation of entrenched behaviour. He initially posted on a site run by Rick Ross (an American anti-cultist and twice convicted felon) and then later migrated to the sites run by Brisbane acupuncturist, Esther Rockett.
Esther Rockett’s blog sites have disseminated extensive lies about Universal Medicine, Serge Benhayon and all those associated with them and Robert Macindoe has been a dedicated participant in the dissemination of material that is extreme, disgusting and disturbing – a factor that might be considered as clearly exposing the real character and mental state of Robert Macindoe.
It is hard to discern what would possess a man to relentlessly pursue his targets and engage in such offensive conduct. From his online comments it appears that Robert Macindoe’s antipathy towards Serge Benhayon had its roots in his distaste for his wife’s attendance at some Universal Medicine events some years earlier. However when Robert Macindoe began his cyber-stalking his wife was no longer associated with Universal Medicine and the people whom Robert Macindoe has targeted, with the exception of Serge Benhayon and musician Chris James, have never met or had any dealings with Robert Macindoe or his wife.
Whatever Robert Macindoe’s views about Universal Medicine or any other topic, cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying is unacceptable. The nature of the material that Robert Macindoe has published including veiled threats of violence and content that is disgusting and offensive is particularly repulsive. Evidently in the shadow land of Robert Macindoe’s private world however, the antipathy that he holds against Universal Medicine justifies cyber-bullying individuals that he has never met and has no relationship with.
Robert Macindoe appears to display an unhealthy obsession with the relationship between Serge Benhayon and his wife Miranda, making various false and offensive references to paedophilia in this regard. There is no foundation to such vile accusations, Robert Macindoe has made a disgusting association between the fact that Serge Benhayon taught his current wife tennis when she was a teenager and that she had spent time staying at the Benhayon home, with the Benhayon family, for short periods to support her tennis coaching schedule. Many years later, and 2 years after his separation (2002) from his first wife, Miranda Benhayon and Serge Benhayon began a relationship (2004). They married in 2010. There has never been and never was anything that would be considered inappropriate with Serge Benhayon’s relationship with his current wife, Miranda Benhayon. What is of concern is the obsession that Robert Macindoe has about the relationship between the tennis coach and his student at the time. He has tried to publish the crudest of these comments on Universal Medicine students’ blogs. That he has no basis to make such claims and the crudeness of his posts is disturbing particularly in the context of Robert Macindoe being a teacher of children.
Of real concern is that Robert Macindoe has extended the menacing nature of his comments beyond his antipathy towards Serge Benhayon to sending offensive private emails to others associated with Serge Benhayon and even making offensive sexual references towards Serge Benhayon’s 24 year old daughter.
For instance on 1 March 2014 Robert Macindoe made a comment on a photograph of a young woman associated with Universal Medicine, by direct email to the young woman concerned stating:
‘Whoever is the anorexic chick in the photo ? you need a big steak,a beer and a good root. You’ve got the lean emaciated bingo wings and you’re not even fifty or maybe you are !!’
On 16 March 2014 Robert Macindoe sent three emails to a female doctor in Northern Ireland who is associated with Universal Medicine. One of these emails contains what appears to be a threat of possible sexual violence towards the doctor as follows:
‘the error of OUR DAY ………….” you cant be that much of an idiot Mindflop-PLato was referring to his day – circa 430-320 BC ,and by the way plato knew buggar all about medicine -a bit like that fuckwit benhayon. oh sorry i forgot he’s pythagoras isn’t he and im clarke gable and you are …..? frustrated -and i’ll be in ireland in august , could be your lucky month’
And on the Astro forum he makes a concerning sexual references with regard to Serge Benhayon’s 24 year old daughter;
‘And as Woody Allen once said: “ There is nothing wrong with Masturbation, it’s just having sex with someone you love. And here is a new range for Natalie Benahyon too- your very own Serge Benhayon personally endorsed Esoteric Vibrator’
Threatening sexual violence and menacing conduct is a disturbing quality in anyone, let alone in anyone professing to be an ambassador of a leading cultural institution. However those qualities are abhorrent in a teacher and absolutely abhorrent in a music teacher in close physical contact with children. Robert Macindoe’s offensive online behaviour including the choice of the email address ‘Erotic doberman’ (with its sexually explicit overtones) that he has used to send many of his offensive and sometimes lascivious personal emails, calls into question Robert Macindoe’s very fitness to work with children.
Robert Macindoe appears to have no moral compass for his actions. This evaluation can be made from the extensive harassment he has engaged in without any regard for the potential harm that it could cause his targets, indeed his intention can only be interpreted as to cause harm irrespective of the consequences.
A growing literature on the psychology of cyber-bullying identifies it as a mental health issue. This appears apt in Robert Macindoe’s case. How else does one begin to explain an online campaign of harassment and abuse by a middle aged man, targeting people in medical and complementary health related fields he has never met, using an email address that has sexually explicit overtones, and whose posts contain sexually violent references, but who is, the father of four young children, a member of a leading Australian cultural institution, and who teaches school children music?
